Nokia Lumia 800 Launches on Pay As You Go Deals

Nokia's first smart phone to run the latest Windows Phone 7 operating system has now been released on Pay As You Go deals, the Nokia Lumia 800 was initially launched on contract deals from Vodafone, T-Mobile, O2, Orange, Talk Mobile and most recently 3 Mobile but this is the first time that this new handset has been offered without any long-term commitment.

The Windows operating software of the Nokia Lumia 800 uses a new 'Live Tiles' set-up on the main home screen which the user can personalise with their favourite and most important information such as incoming messages and emails, weather and news reports, short cuts to pictures and videos plus social networking features that constantly update whilst the phone is turned on.

There is also comprehensive support for Microsoft's mobile titles such as outlook for email and office for documents plus access to the new Microsoft 'Skydrive' remote storage service which users can utilise to upload up to 25GB of data to save on the internal phone memory of 16GB.

The main touch screen of the new Nokia Lumia measures 3.7 inches and uses AMOLED and 'ClearBlack' technology for a vibrant, crisp and sharp display, the curved edges of this screen almost seem to vanish into the sides of the casing creating a very minimalistic design to the phone with a tapered top and bottom to the casing.

Although not as fast as the top-end new smart phones such as the HTC Sensation XE with its dual core 1.5GHz processor or the Samsung Galaxy Note's 1.4GHz dual core chip the single core 1.4GHz processor of the Nokia Lumia does produce smooth and fast results and with a smaller screen than its competitors the main power is directed to running multiple applications and the user interface.

This latest release of the Nokia Lumia 800 on Pay As You Go deals leaves just one further launch for the handset, this is the availability of the phone as a SIM free and unlocked unit with no network connection which should take place very soon.

Vodafone Launches Cheapest Deals So Far for a Free Samsung Galaxy Note

The new Samsung Galaxy Note is one of the most expensive handset releases from the manufacturer this year demanding a similar price tag to the recently released flagship Samsung Galaxy Nexus but a selection of Vodafone contract deals have now been launched which are the cheapest available with a free phone included.

Since its initial release a couple of weeks ago the new Samsung Galaxy Note could not be purchased by consumers on contract deals with less than a £41 charge per month, this was on the Orange network and Vodafone have just released a Galaxy Note deal that includes a free phone that only asks for £36 line rental.

This new Samsung Galaxy Note deal is on the 'Vodafone 600' tariff which offers an inclusive data bundle of 500MB every month which will be well used by this new Android phone that requires an internet connection to maintain some of its crucial features.

Also included in this new Vodafone deal for the Galaxy Note are 600 minutes which the customer can use at any time of the day to call landline numbers as well as other mobile networks, making this new package even more attractive is unlimited text messaging every month and the fact that it is a full £5 cheaper than the previous best deal offered by Orange.

So what does the new Samsung Galaxy Note on Vodafone offer?

The most obvious thing about this new phone is the size of its main screen, measuring an industry leading 5.3 inches it is by far the largest currently available with the HTC Sensation XL and HTC Titan following in second with 4.7 inch displays and the brand new Samsung Galaxy Nexus with its 4.65 inch touch screen.

The sheer size of the Super AMOLED display almost knocks the Samsung Galaxy Note out of the smart phone category and into the tablet market but on closer inspection this is very much a phone.

Running on a fast, dual core 1.4GHz processor which is even faster than the best-selling Samsung Galaxy S2 and powered by an enormous 2500 mAh battery this new handset may have dimensions of 146 x 83 mm but at just 10mm thin it is still easy enough to slip into a pocket.

On the reverse of the phone is an 8 mega pixel camera which allows the user to record high quality 1080p full HD video clips and on the front of the handset us a secondary camera for video calling. (Those using Apple products such as the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 will know this as 'Facetime').

To get the Galaxy Note hooked up to the internet there is WiFi and speedy 3.5G data support whilst GPS takes care of turn by turn navigation and with access to the Android Market there is now a massive choice of over half a million new applications for users to download.

The Samsung Galaxy Note is now available on Orange, O2, T-Mobile and Vodafone contract deals leaving just 3 Mobile as the main player yet to launch offers for this new handset, it is also available as a SIM free and unlocked unit and a possible Pay As You Go release is also rumoured to take place soon.

Bell launches LTE network in Ontario cities

Bell launched its next-generation high-speed wireless network in areas of Toronto, Mississauga, Hamilton, Kitchener Waterloo and Guelph Wednesday.

The Ontario network, based on a technology called long-term evolution (LTE), "will deliver amazing data access speeds — at least three times faster than the Bell HSPA+ network originally launched less than three years ago," said Wade Oosterman, president of Bell Mobility in a statement ahead of Wednesday's launch.

The company said it expects typical speeds for the network to be between 12 and 25 megabits per second. Bell's HSPA+ network offers typical speeds of 3.5 to 8 megabits per second and 7 to 14 megabits per second in areas where it offers HSPA+ with dual carrier technology.

The company is referring to its LTE network as 4G, the same name it has been applying to its existing HSPA+ networks.

The first device able to use the new network will be the LTE Sierra Wireless U313 Turbo Stick, which went on sale at "select Bell stores" Wednesday. Bell said LTE-capable smartphones and tablets will be available later in the year.

Devices will switch to the next fastest speed available when outside LTE areas, Bell said. A news release claimed it is the "first and only Canadian 4G network" to allow that.

However, Rogers indicates on its website that its LTE users will also be able to connect with HSPA+ or EDGE technologies where there is no LTE coverage.

Rogers network launched its LTE network in Ottawa in July, and is currently the only other LTE provider in Canada other than Bell.

Rogers expects to launch LTE in Toronto at the end of September.

Bell said it will launch LTE in additional Canadian markets, starting with urban areas, later this year and through 2012.

It said the timing of its rollout in rural areas depends on the outcome of Industry Canada's 700 megahertz spectrum auction.

The 700 megahertz band of airwaves, formerly used by analog TV, was freed up when Canada made the switch to digital TV on Aug. 31. Bell and other large wireless carriers want to be able to bid in an open auction. However, there is a possibility that part of the spectrum could be set aside for newer wireless entrants to boost competition, as during a last auction that led to the launch of new wireless services from Wind Mobile, Mobilicity, Public Mobile and Vidéotron. Industry Canada has not yet indicated what rules it will set for the auction.
