Find a Decent App Developer and Ensure That Your Smartphones Don't Get Cluttered With Trash Apps

If you are into smartphones, then you are probably one of those persons who go gaga over applications made here and there. Many a decent app developer is now out of their comfort zones to be amongst the many people who want to earn money by making apps. Sometimes, or most of the time, the apps being made are useless ones and not even entertaining ones. There are good apps though, that make jobs easier through good alarms, schedulers, email support, etc. and there are also those that give you the fun you need through game apps made to pass those boring hours of the day or keep you company at times. There are even applications that help you maintain good health, apps that help you read the daily news on your phone and apps that will help you read your favorite book just about anywhere. These are the good ones that you can install to your phone. Sometimes there are paid apps where you will need to shed some money to avail of their awesomeness. Too bad though that a lot of rotten applications have surfaced on the internet and their purpose is so mundane that it annoys the good folks. You will have to sort them out one by one if you want to avoid them.

A good app developer will ensure that the application he made will be beneficial not only to him but to his customer as well. You will see that an app is good if it is constantly being updated by its maker. If you want to buy an app because it seemed and looked cool, you should first find reviews about it, if it's really any good or if it's a dumb app made to generate a quick buck through advertisement. When we mean advertisement it's the annoying little boxes on an application popping up on your Smartphone every time you open a dud app. You can avoid them really, and they are most active when you have a free app installed on your phone. Well what do you expect from a free application right? They will want to make something from their creation and having sponsored ads is one way of doing it. Developers who can't make decent applications turn their luck on those ads and its rather annoying most of the time for decent folks. A good thing to note though is that if you do not like the application then you can immediately delete it. It's such a waste of memory or storage space at times that you just can't help but be annoyed.

So look only for trusted iPhone app developer or Android app developers so that you will avoid those useless apps. Reviews online are good bases of what is not a hit on the app market, so just go to one site and be informed.

The Rising Popularity of Smartphones

Mobile phones have long ceased to be objects of luxury. Today, they are more of a necessity, besides being an excellent choice for entertainment and style. No wonder leading mobile phone manufacturers are introducing new handsets almost everyday that are loaded with new applications and technology.

The market, recently, has witnessed a recent flurry of smartphones that are attractively priced and targets the budget customer. Handset manufacturers try to incorporate all the features in their cheap smartphones that are comprised in the more expensive ones.

Customers too mostly have their own choices and requirements when they want to buy a new smartphone handset. While most experts had scorned at handset manufacturers coming out cheap smartphones, claiming that these phones would degrade technology, were left swallowing their own word when mobile companies didn't compromise the quality of cheap smartphones. In fact, the technical features of cheap smartphones have improved with their popularity and an increasing number of companies are designing applications for inexpensive smartphones.

For instance, HTC's latest release, the Wildfire S, is a classic example of latest technology being incorporated in an inexpensive smartphone. If you're on the lookout for a handset that has advanced features like Wi-Fi connectivity, HSDPA, exciting multimedia options and social media access, then the Wildfire S would be a good option for you.

Not only has the inexpensive smartphone segment witnessed phenomenal growth, the cheap mobile segment in general, has also seen huge growth in demand. Manufacturers, thus, are concentrating more on the demands of the customer and designing cheap mobiles and packing the handsets with the latest features and applications.

The needs and demand of mobile phone features vary among every individual. While a businessman would opt for a handset that comprises high-end technology to meet their business needs, the youth and teenagers are attracted to phones that boast of fanciful applications and games. Each person has a different need for features and applications when it comes to cell phones. Customers may not want all the features that expensive mobile phones offer. This is another reason that has given rise to extremely cheap mobile phones that comprise only the basic features. These phones are hardy and are available under warranty from almost all mobile phone manufacturers.

If you're one of those intending to buy a cheap mobile phone or an inexpensive smartphone, you would be amazed to see the variety of phones available with stunning applications. This is a reason behind the popularity of economically priced mobile phones. The rising popularity of inexpensive smartphones has made leading networks in the UK announce free gifts and exclusive deals and offers. Besides, with almost everybody these days having a social networking account, phone manufacturers are equipping their cheap phones with the facility to access social networking sites on the internet. This has made the mid-range phones popular. These phones have GPRS facilities and are affordable to those who can't afford a high-end smartphone.

With the demand for cheap phones increasing by the day, the segment is all slated to grow tremendously in the coming days.

Mobile Phone Gaming: The New Niche for Smartphones

Ever since mobile phones started to have screens of their own, there were games that were incorporated in the handsets. While at first there was the simple game called Snake, a proprietary of Nokia, mobile users these days can enjoy a level of mobile gaming experience that was once the prerogative of only home computers and gaming consoles.

Yet, mobile gaming can be termed as a relatively recent development and was slow to pick up compared to other mobile phone technologies. The minuscule screens of the earlier cell phone handsets coupled with their limitation to only alphanumeric controls means that mobile phone gaming, for long, was more of a gimmick than anything else.

But all that almost changed overnight with the arrival of touch-screen smartphones in 2007. These smartphones had bigger screens that were more in sync with graphical games. Moreover, the method of input was much more appropriate than a small constricted physical keypad. Introduction of application stores like the Android Market and Apple App Store provided a means for small game developers to introduce their gaming software to the cell phone market.

It can be said without doubt that there has been a huge surge in the popularity of gaming smartphones in the last one year, so much so that the level of gaming can be compared to traditional game consoles. Microsoft and Sony are the two rivals that are competing with each other to acquire the larger pie of the smartphone gaming sector.

The Windows Mobile operating system has been steadily losing ground to Android and Apple and this led the Redmond-based company to redesign its strategy. Seeing the increase in popularity of cheap smartphones, the two companies pulled up their socks and got going on a fresh set of games compatible for cheap smartphones.

Most games developers, and that includes the more famous ones, were initially apprehensive of whether cheap smartphones would be popular or not and were thus hesitant to design games for such phones. Most of the games designed were for high-end smartphone handsets and targeted at the business customer.

However, the popularity of cheap smartphones from several major cell phone manufacturers changed the scenario. In fact, these manufacturers themselves weren't sure about the success of cheap handsets. But once these cheap inexpensive handsets caught the fancy of the customer, game developers sensed the huge gaming market waiting to be explored and started developing games for cheap smartphones.

Other relatively unknown companies and small developers soon joined the bandwagon and the cheap smartphone manufacturers started incorporating these games in their handsets. The games had full graphics and sound. The range included action, adventure, sports and mind-games.

As the world of cheap smartphones expand with every passing day, more and more game developers are coming up with better games to woo the customer. The market for smartphone gaming is still at the developmental stage and we can fairly expect to see more interesting and graphically arresting games to be introduced in the near feature. It'll be the cheap smartphone buyer who'll eventually emerge as the winner.

Smartphones in 2012

The power of smartphones has increased by leaps and bounds ever since the first smartphone, the Apple iPhone, was launched in 2007. The cheap smartphone segment, especially, has witnessed a phenomenal growth in 2011. Faster processors, superb displays, high quality cameras and other features fuelled the popularity of smartphones in 2011. Most cheap smartphones, however, were found lacking in the battery department. Most of these phones, even today, require a battery recharge within 24 hours. But improved performance has been the scoring point for most of these phones.

But that doesn't mean that smartphones, and the cheap smartphone in particular, has no room for innovation and improvement in 2012. Here's a look at what manufacturers are likely to incorporate in their products in the coming year.

Quad-core processors

While 2011 was the year of the dual core, 2012 is expected to usher in the quad-core processor even in cheap smartphones. Tegra 3 by Nvidia, is touted to be nearly five times faster compared to the dual core Tegra 2. Qualcomm, meanwhile, plans to launch its quad-core Snapdragon CPUs with speeds in the 2.5 GHz range. It also plans to launch the quad-core Adreno graphics processor for gaming.

Near-field communication

Near-field communication (NFC) is the technology which enables the smartphone user to wave his handset in front of a payment kiosk, instead of swiping his credit card, while making payments. To make that a reality, wireless carriers and cheap smartphone makers must incorporate the NFC capability in their handsets and retail outlets must set up kiosks that accept such payments. 2012 may finally see NFC being implemented.

Displays with 720 pixel resolution

The HTC Rezound and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus were the first phones to boast of true 720 pixel resolution i.e. 1280 x 720 pixel displays. This is likely to become the norm for display even in cheap smartphones the next year and handset manufacturers may even figure out how to comprise the pixels into a smaller screen. The result would be beautiful smartphone screens where individual pixels will be impossible to differentiate.

Voice control

After the introduction of Siri in the iPhone 4S by Apple, Microsoft and Google are trying to out-score each other to incorporate more voice commands in their respective cheap smartphone platforms. As for Siri, there's a slim chance that Apple may open up its virtual personal assistant to third-party applications in 2012. In the same way, the company would expand the functionality of Siri by the time the year is over.

Better phones to cost less

As cutting edge and state-of-the art smartphone technology improves, the average stuff also toes the same line. This means that more cheap smartphones will be introduced in the market and a greater number of people would start sporting such handsets. In fact, Steve Ballmer, CEO, Microsoft, has already forecast that Android smartphones will be the cheapest and companies will have to scour for ways to bring down the cost of their products.

Whatever it is, you can expect to see a flurry of cheap smartphones invading the market in 2012.

Things You Must Know About Smartphones

The craze for smartphones is at its height. Each day, almost all mobile phone companies are coming up with a new smartphone. People are lapping up each and every smartphone without knowing what to expect from such a phone.

Well, here are some things you must know about a smartphone.

Internet is the key

While it's usual for smartphones to come in several sizes, the internet is always the key. A smartphone sans internet is akin to a hamburger without the ham. As of now, over a quarter of the smartphone users rarely access internet from anywhere else other than their smartphone. Experts have projected that by the end of 2013, the smartphone would be the primary device to be used by people for accessing the internet and it will overtake the laptop and the personal computer in this regard. If your smartphone lacks internet, contemplate buying a new one.

Power is precious

Even if you make only a few calls from your phone, several cheap smartphones run low on battery beyond 24 hours. While the features of a phone usually attract the most attention, the capacity of the battery isn't given much importance. More and more smartphone users are carrying their battery chargers with them even while going to work. Playing games or watching videos would drain the battery quickly. Avoid these if you want far more important things to do with your smartphone.

Call quality depends on the design

You would be certainly amused if you saw a photo of an early mobile phone with a giant antenna protruding from the back. Even cheap smartphones, these days, have eliminated the necessity of an antenna which is comprised within the device itself. However, several ergonomically designed phones often fall short in their call quality because of the aesthetics that short-changes the function of the antenna.

Most applications get boring fast

Depending upon the operating system of your smartphone, there could be hundreds of applications available over the internet. In fact, an average cheap smartphone user normally downloads 4-5 new applications each month. Studies have revealed that a majority of these applications, a whopping 91 per cent, are used less than 10 times and are mostly forgotten. Be selective about the applications you download and delete those that you use rarely. This would save space as well as battery life.

Privacy is thin

The worst part of a smartphone is that very little information contained in its memory is actually kept private. Though the policies of the service providers and the internet often differ, most of them comprise a provision for accessing the information of their users from any corner of the world.

There are viruses for smartphones

Though their numbers could be many times less than that of a personal computer, smartphone viruses do exist. However, the vast number of smartphone viruses usually attack modified or jail-broken handsets. Nevertheless, virus attacks on regular and cheap smartphones are increasing in number.

While the above points may not be sacrosanct for each and every smartphone, it's advisable to keep them in mind while buying a handset.

Application Development for Smartphones

The smartphone can be labeled as the latest development in the world of communication. In simple terms, it's a sophisticated communications gadget that comprises several key features. It works as a mobile phone and consists of an operation system which enables the handset to run applications. A smartphone logs on to the internet faster because of its power to connect via the new 3G network. Besides, running handy software like photo editing, listening t music, word editing etc. is also simpler on a smartphone. Comprising an inbuilt keypad, even cheap smartphones today have email capacities.

Smartphone applications, on their part, enable the user to stay connected to developments in any field that's of interest to the user. Political developments, economic issues, commodity prices and stock market indices, foreign exchange fluctuations, sports news, weather updates, games, emails and several other applications can be run on even a cheap smartphone. Besides helping you to stay connected, a smartphone also helps the user to share his views and knowledge to others. There's no iota of doubt that a smartphone application can bring entertainment, information and communication at your fingertips thereby incorporating more fun in your life and making business easier.

There are hundreds of software applications for smartphones. While some are freely available, others come with a fee. These include social networking, picture viewing and uploading, video watching and uploading, getting the latest news, readers to read pages, map viewers and location finders etc.

Every passing day is witnessing the introduction of a plethora of new smartphone applications. They are also getting smarter in looks and content. Many of them are expected to be trendsetters in their own field. Millions of people across the world use some smartphone application or the other and their numbers are steadily increasing. In fact, so much has been the progress that predictive analytical applications are slated to be the next big thing in the world of smartphone applications. Predictive analysis involves scrutinizing of behavioral data. For instance, your application would inform you that the time has come to visit your physician or purchase an airline ticket.

Experts at Google are now creating Google Goggles which is a smartphone application for promoting computer vision, Once Google Goggles identifies a landmark, it shows web pages about the landmark's history. This could be a great tool for researchers and travelers. The next generation of smartphone applications is expected to exploit device sensors to the fullest. Multiple microphones, 3D cameras and sundry other new inventions would be put to optimum use by smartphone applications. While 3D gaming would make its debut, healthcare applications, besides the usual alerts, would use the power of the smartphone hardware to show information. For instance, if the level of pollution around you is beyond the acceptable limit, it'll advise you to move to a safer place.

These applications, one considered to be more of a dream, are well on their way towards reality. There are thousands of other applications that are on various stages of development waiting to take the smartphone world by storm.

Selling Your Used Smartphones for Extra Cash

As the economy recession takes its toll on the average citizen, it can be quite difficult to meet certain bills, particularly if you have been laid off or if your hours have been cut. You look for creative ways to ensure that you are making your payments on time; however, garage sales and re-financing your loans are not making it work. The additional expenses-perhaps textbooks for school, or your phone bills-might need a little extra help. If you are in need for some quick, no-hassle cash, you should consider selling smartphones that you haven't used in a while-your used devices just sitting in your closet, simply collecting dust.

Prior to the loss of your job, you might have continuously opted for the latest models of the smartphones around. The newest features, whether it was video chatting capabilities or a higher-pixel camera, enticed you to drop a few hundred dollars every few months on the latest upgrade. Because your old smartphones were in perfect condition and you only upgraded simply because you wanted the latest model, you have them safely tucked away, never having the chance to give them to a friend or relative in need and never having the opportunity to sell them-until now. You need the additional cash, and between the several phones you have stored away in the closet, selling smartphones can be a great way to get the quick cash that you need.

Some smartphones are definitely in high enough demand for you to sell them directly to buyers through services such as Amazon, eBay, or even Craigslist. However, other phones might be used and broken to the point where people might not necessarily want to buy it directly from you. Rather, selling smartphones to refurbishing companies is a great idea because it allows you to get rid of your devices that might be in full working condition. These companies are willing to buy these used and broken devices in order to retrieve the working parts to put together a fully functioning refurbished phone that they can resell.

Thus, if you need some quick cash, selling smartphones that would be otherwise sitting in your room somewhere to refurbishing companies can garner you the cash you need. The phones, whether broken or not, might simply be sitting there, just collecting dust. This way, you can get the few extra bucks in order to pay off some late bills or to buy the few things that you actually need. Even if you aren't tight on cash, the holiday season is quickly approaching. Selling smartphones that you won't be needing anyways can get you some money you can put towards buying your loved ones some nice presents for the holiday season.

A broken or even an extra phone is of little use to you. You cannot use a broken phone unless you invest some cash to get it fixed. And the extra phone might still work; however, you already have a working phone. So, why not take advantage of the ability to sell these devices to make some extra money?

Why Do People Love Smartphones?

My husband is all about the latest electronics. We have a drawer full of old cell phones, with all their related wires and cases, two old GPS devices, a number of iPods and MP3 players, and a laptop that rarely emerges from its expensive leather case.

Now I've discovered why people love smartphones so much. Although I was skeptical at first, I realized that finally I would be able to get rid of all this stuff! I can listen to music on my smart phone, access the internet and use it as a GPS device just by talking to it.

With the half million or so apps that are available I can also play my favorite games when I'm waiting in line at the supermarket or instead of falling asleep at the doctor's office.

Now when my husband drags me off to a sporting event that I'm not particularly interested in, I can keep in touch with friends on Facebook, answer e-mails, send text messages and keep an eye on my business wherever I am. No longer do I have to roast my upper thighs with a boiling hot laptop when I'm sick in bed, I can snuggle down with my smart phone and visit a health site to try and find out the best cure for whatever is wrong with me.

With airlines putting us all on a baggage diet, no longer do I need my heavy laptop which I'm always afraid of wrecking, or a pile of books and magazines. Oh yes of course my husband has to watch TV - I wish he'd use his smartphone to do that at home, I hate TV and it's not something I will be using any time soon although watching a movie on the next trip I take does sound tempting.

Although my old man is always reluctant to dispose of his old electronic gadgets, when I put them in a pile he could see why I was getting so frustrated. I did a little research and found that the phone he used before getting his smart phone could be sold for around $80 or help research a disease through donations.

I told him I would send it off and give him the money only if he allowed me to take the rest of his obsolete devices to the local big box electronics store for recycling or to a charity.

He asked why I didn't just throw it all in the garbage. I think he has very little social consciousness and wish he'd be more aware of the world around him.

Smartphones For Students

I used to think that smartphones were a luxury but since I treated myself to one of the latest mobile devices, I am beginning to think differently. Smartphones for students are also becoming a necessity. Yes, they do check their e-mail and chat with their friends on FaceBook but a recent study showed that students who owned smart phones actually study more. Many of them admitted that they study coursework while standing in line, in bed and in the bathroom! Smartphones also save time-no more having to set up a lap top, or worse, spending time visiting a library to find information.

With over half a million apps available students can locate the information they seek right from their desk (or the bathroom!). Young people and students love their smartphones, and with nearly all of these devices you can easily read eBooks - far more convenient than dragging around a bag full of heavy books.

Course books for college and university students are ridiculously expensive. If you have last year's version you're always told to get this year's version, although often little of the information has changed. Hopefully e- publishing will do away with this expensive nonsense - books will be updated online and thousands of trees can breathe a sigh of relief!

The cost for an up-to-date smartphone can be high for many families and internet access will cost every month, but the convenience far outweighs those costs. Many students who can afford to update to the latest device on a regular basis should also think about how they are going to dispose of their present smartphone.

Advertising it on a college bulletin board for sale will probably see them quickly sold - the best kind of recycling. Otherwise used smartphones can be traded in for a new phone, and there are many companies online who buy used phones. The better condition you can keep your phone in the more money you'll get for it.

So if you're a student and you find you have downtime during the day, perhaps standing in line or possibly watching a live sports event, a smartphone can offer the opportunity to study even though you're doing something else. There is also a rumor that Microsoft is working on a mobile version of MS Office for the iPad, and when that materializes students will be able to work on their class assignments just about anywhere.

Get Cash for Smartphones Online in Time for the Holidays

The holidays are fast approaching, which means that millions of Americans are starting to worry about money more than usual. People are beginning to buy their holiday presents, which can become very expensive very quickly. Managing to afford those presents can be a challenge, especially during tough economic times like these. That's why it's a good idea to look around your house to see if you have any old belongings that you no longer need. You can take those old items and sell them for some extra money that will help you through the holiday season. For example, you can get a lot of cash for smartphones that you may have lying around in your storage space.

Millions of Americans have extra phones sitting around their homes that they just don't use. It's incredibly common to replace cellphones every two years or so because that's how long most cellphone contracts last, and there are always special deals that offer free phones or amazing discounts for people who sign on for two years. So you probably have some old phones somewhere in your house, and you can get cash for smartphones by simply selling those to someone who can use them. Many times, people don't know what the best way to sell their old phones is because there aren't a lot of physical retail stores that buy used phones. The easiest and fastest way to get cash for smartphones is to sell them online.

People who try to earn cash for smartphones online generally try to do it on their own. Many people start out by trying to list their phones on websites like Craigslist or eBay, but there are big disadvantages to using either of those websites. With Craigslist, you may wind up dealing with an untrustworthy buyer that could try to steal your phone or rip you off with fake money. On eBay, you will wind up having to pay some listing and closing fees that will eat into your profit, and you may end up dealing with buyers who have a lot of questions or who don't want to pay when they win the auction. You can easily avoid those problems by simply selling your phone to a company that wants to buy it from you directly. To do so, you only have to fill out an online form that describes what model of phone you have, what condition it is in and what kind of extra accessories come with it. You will get more cash for smartphones if your phones are in excellent condition and if you have all of the original packaging, but you will still get a good amount of money back even if your phone no longer works. The company that gives you cash for smartphones likely has a team of technicians that can either repair the phone or take it apart to sell it for parts, so they will happily buy your old phone no matter what condition it is in. Sell your old phone online this holiday season so you can have a little more money in your pocket to help you and your loved ones better enjoy the holidays.

Future Benefits Of 4G Technology For Smartphones Users

As smartphones increase in power and capability, user demand rises also. With the world full of consumers demanding more and more out of their hand held devices, there are certain bottlenecks and limitations that are currently not advancing as everyone would wish. So prepare for 4G connection speeds.

At the moment there are limitations in the capacity of data allowances and battery life. For day to day activities the battery life is an aspect of mobile technology that has fallen behind and currently limits the usage and ability to travel without a charger. Also, all current network providers are limiting the capacity of their current 3G systems. The days of dial-up connections and slowly loading pages are over and consumers expectations are high.

As it stands there's not much availability for 4G at the moment but it's a technology that in a few years every phone will be compatible with and each network provider will offer a much improved service over the current 3G connection speeds. Currently, there are around 8-10 networks providing LTE services, across Europe, North America.

LTE is short for Long Term Evolution and is considered the successor to 3G. But currently is still in the pre-3G stage, but will soon be upgraded to LTE Advanced to offer the full 4G experience. Although LTE is currently available in USA, Britain is hoped to receive this type of service in 2012, this is when the LTE radio spectrum is up for auction. The rival to LTE is WiMAX, which has been very successful in being implemented in emerging markets where there is a lack of mobile infrastructure.

Benefits Of 4G For Mobile Users:

The major benefit and advantage 4G has over the current 3G is speed. With expectations of over 10 times faster network speeds. Allowing users to consume data and information at a much faster rate. Increasing the possibility of the activities currently available with smartphones. Such as using the network speeds much like you would at home or at work, with an expected 5-12mbps download speed. Therefore increasing flexibility and freedom to get access online whenever required because 4G operates in the 700MHz spectrum. This means the signal can penetrate buildings much more easily. Therefore, eliminating the current problem of lost signals when in certain buildings and locations.

Plus, latency on the 4G network is expected to be greatly reduced. By utilising faster throughput with lower latency each and every mobile device can benefit from improved battery performance. Helping carry out daily activities much less of a worry, whether venturing on long trips and not worrying about battery life to making cheap calls to USA or anywhere else in the world, and many other activities that were once a worry will hopefully be resolved with increased battery life when carrying out different tasks.

But beware, all phones will be limited to the networks their available to. As of yet there is little use for fully fledged 4G phones because of such little support form the networks. Therefore it may not be until the next smartphone next upgrade that it should be in place and operational.

War of the Smartphones

Once upon a time, phones were used only for voice communication, while PDAs were used to store contact information, to-do lists, and access e-mail.

Perhaps, one day, somebody looked at the cell phone and the PDA and thought, "They look pretty much alike - why don't we put them together?" And the smartphone was born.

But it took a while for smartphones to gain market demand. At first, these handheld communication and computing devices catered only to a specific niche.

And then Apple released the iPhone - and suddenly, smartphones started becoming immensely popular.

Fighting for number one

With this new popularity came the war of the smartphones. Now, the big players that once sold to a limited demography are competing for worldwide sales supremacy. The aim is to gain control of the fast-growing smartphone market.

And the battle in sales extends to research and development. While phone manufacturers Apple, Samsung, Blackberry, and Nokia are fighting their war in hardware, smartphone operating system (OS) providers are also battling it out in the software department.

Google owns the Android OS, while Microsoft owns the mobile Windows OS. Apple, Blackberry, and Nokia all use their own OS.

But not everyone is jumping onto the "own your own OS" bandwagon. Samsung seems to be benefitting from using the open source Android OS; the company has recently reported a rapid increase in sales. And in late 2011, Nokia has launched some new smartphones, the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710, which run on the Windows OS instead of Nokia's own Symbian.

On another frontier, Apple, Microsoft, and Blackberry are also at the forefront of a patent war against Samsung, as Apple defends its iPhone designs while Microsoft and Blackberry are more concerned with their OS functionalities.

The true winner

Amidst all this competition, the avid followers and patrons of the smartphone technology are coming out as the true winners, as newer and more advanced smartphone models are being churned out for their consumption.

There are different predictions on who is ultimately going to win this technology and business war. Some say Microsoft will outlast the others because it has the greatest ability to offer a seamless computing experience for more users worldwide, given that PC users still make up the majority of computer users. Apple is still a serious contender, though, and one can never shrug it off, considering its history of changing the game to its own advantage. The thing that keeps Blackberry and Nokia in the fight is their undeniably solid and loyal consumer base.

A hidden cost

Inevitably, where there are winners, there are losers as well. One casualty of this smartphone war - this race for churning out the best, most technologically advanced phone - is the environment.

With the rapid turnover of smartphone units, as consumers scramble to take hold of newer models and dispose of their old handsets, there comes a corresponding rapid growth of waste, which is becoming a major cause for concern.

Heavy metals from used smartphone components in landfills are said to be leaching into the soil, leading to water and soil contamination. The non-biodegradability of most phone cases also complicates matters.

It is a good thing that mobile phone recyclers are now in business to address this environmental concern.

As we join the mad rush for the smartest smartphones, let us look beyond our touch screens and remember that there is a world out there that we need to take care of, if it is to continue taking care of us. Let's buy all the smartphones we want and can afford, if we wish to, but let us be responsible enough to dispose of our old phones responsibly, by sending them to mobile phone recyclers instead of just chucking them into the trash.

Top Rated Smartphones on the Market Today

Getting Started

When you think of smartphones, three brand names and three Operating Systems come to mind. The brands include BlackBerry, iPhone and HTC. The BlackBerry of course uses the BlackBerry OS, The iPhone uses the Mac OS and the HTC smartphones are generally operated on the Android OS.

Each of the smartphones has their pros and cons and while I am a BlackBerry fan at heart, there have been some recent releases across each platform that has gotten my attention. Apple has just released the iPhone 4S and BlackBerry has released its Torch 2 in addition to a new Bold and a Curve. HTC is constantly releasing new mobile devices with each one a little better than its predecessor, which already had enough features to suit the everyday business person as well as smartphones enthusiasts.

The BlackBerry Torch 2 or BlackBerry Torch 9860

The new BlackBerry Torch features a touchscreen interface which has made it a favorable upgrade from the previous bulky slide up Torch. It has upgraded a few features to go with its new design and now facilitates the pinch and zoom features as well. The new Torch is being constantly compared with the new iPhone 4 S because they were released at approximately the same time with similar features and their parent companies are rivals. The Torch 2 or Torch 9860 features the promising BlackBerry OS 7 which bares some resemblance to that of the iPhone's user interface. They are both touch screen devices but some options of the BlackBerry Torch requires button input.

HTC and Other Mobiles

HTC has released quite a few mobile phones within the past few months, most if not all have been smart phones, but some persons might refer to a few of them as feature phones instead. Some of the latest releases include the HTC Radar, the HTC Titan and the HTC sensation 4G. Motorola and Samsung is also in the smart phone race with the Droid phones and the popular Samsung Galaxy that has been upgraded and re-released at least twice; most recently, the Samsung Galaxy S 2.

Making a Smart Choice

If you are looking for a smartphone, whether to manage your files and emails, to engage in better multimedia entertainment or simply to impress your friends, you should consider getting a mobile from one of the listed brands in the aforementioned paragraphs. However you should keep in mind that not all cell phones are the same even if they are made by the same manufacturer, so you should pay attention to the smartphone's design, user interface, features and overall performance.
