Jitterbug, One of the Best Cell Phones for Seniors

One of the top rated cell phones for seniors is the Jitterbug. Some of the features include a large keypad that is back lit for easy viewing at night, a bright, clear, color screen, enhanced sound quality as well as noise suppression (to eliminate unwanted background noise) and simple to use menus that only require a yes or no command. You can also store up to 50 frequently used phone numbers, easily retrieve voice mail messages and you will hear the familiar sound of a dial tone when the phone is ready to make a call. In addition the Jitterbug is blue tooth and hearing aid compatible, has a mistake proof volume control and easy to recognize on/off buttons for speaker phone and power. Another nice feature of this phone is that there is no service contract and nationwide plans start at $14.99 per month (plan price subject to change).

The Jitterbug phone is pre-programmed at the factory so it is ready to use right out of the box, with no setup necessary. As with all cell phones it comes with an AC charger for the battery and there quite a few handy accessories that can be purchased separately. These include:

A car charger, which no one should be without.Red and clear beaded lanyards if you prefer not to use a carrying case.Spare battery packs, which come in red, graphite and white in order to match the color of your phone.Horizontal leather case, which provides protection to the phone as well as easy access from your belt or purse.Vertical leather case, which provides protection to the phone as well as easy access from your belt or purse.

The Jitterbug phone is a very well thought out product and is a good value, especially considering the fact that you won't be tied to a service contract and it has one of the most reasonable plans around.

In addition to the AT&T and Jitterbug phones there are other options for cell phones for seniors. Verizon offers the Samsung Haven that not only has a large, easy to use keypad but also features one touch access to emergency numbers, voice commands, reminder alarms and a fitness guide. You can even change the font size, which is a great option. Another important feature that is definitely worth mentioning is that you can store medical information, such as allergies and medication that you are taking. The largest keypad is offered by Just5 whose phones also include short message service (SMS), call log, a one press SOS button and FM radio tuner. In order to get the large keypad and still keep the phone from being too bulky to carry Just5 had to sacrifice display size, but having said that the display window is dedicated to showing the most important thing, the number you are dialing and that is done with nice, large numerals that are very easy to read. Another very handy feature is that the Just5 phone is unlocked so you can use it with any service provider. Not all big button cell phones that we looked at mentioned a backlit key pad, which may be a critical feature. If this is something that is essential to you it would be a good idea to go to the providers or manufacturers website ( http://www.verizon.com, for example) and post a question asking about this feature. Sometimes if enough customers ask about something that is not presently available, or only on limited products it causes them to upgrade their product line to include the requested item. At the very least asking about a backlit key pad will help you make the right product decision.
